Ceremonies
The BHA is perhaps
most visible in its humanist ceremonies. It has a
national network of men and women who are trained
and accredited to conduct humanist funerals, naming
ceremonies, and wedding and affirmation ceremonies.
These are available to anyone wishing a
non-religious ceremony and each is individually and
sensitively written and may contain poetry, prose
and music, as required.
BHA officiants and celebrants are deeply committed
to their work and are subject to a code of conduct
laid down by the BHA. We are lucky to have two
celebrants serving this area: Pam Burn and
David
Brittain.
Pam completed her training at the BHA following
early retirement from the Royal College of
Physicians where she was Chief Executive. She is a
third generation humanist and says she obtains deep
personal satisfaction from being able to work with
people at critical times in their lives.

David has worked as a manager in
various Government Departments – finally as
Education Officer for the Ministry of Defence. A
humanist all his adult life, although he only
joined the BHA in October 2005. David is a founder
member of the North Herts and Beds Humanists, and
regards his celebrant role as quite simply the most
rewarding thing he has ever done.
